The game day jersey retired and hung with such care,
off with the face paint and color for the hair.

No thought about sleeping, there’s kegs to be tapped,
and Sudsy is looking for more than just a night cap.

The players were nestled face first in the keg
while seasons of football replayed in their head.

When, what to my wondering drunken eye should appear,
but a miniature Sudsy, with all his sports gear.

He whistled, and shouted, and called them by name,
‘On football, no dodgeball!  Now wiffleball & volleyball!’
‘On kickball, on broomball!’

To the championship, to the belt!
Now play!  Play away!  Play away all!

He sprang to the keg, to the teams he gave a toast,
‘Chug it down, like the down of a thistle!’

And somewhere I hear on this eventful night,
‘Just do it for the kids and give it all your might!’
